The most important thing for me is the satisfaction of my student and the advances that they gain to learn the Spanish language. Here you can find a testimonials of some of my former students about my teaching methodologies.
Lo más importante para mi, es la satisfacción de mis estudiantes una vez finalizado el curso. Aquí puedes encontrar las opiniones sobre mis técnicas de enseñanza realizadas por antiguos alumnos.
What our students say about us? We asked our students what they thought about studying Spanish at International House Newcastle, and here’s what they told us:
“I really enjoy learning Spanish with Raul at International House, and the quality of the teaching is high. They are nice friendly groups and I have made friends who I have kept contact with.
I think it’s great how much we are encouraged to speak to each other in the classes. I went from only knowing a few words and phrases when I first started to being able to have conversations with people in Spanish. It was particularly satisfying when I was able to travel to Peru and speak to the locals there, particularly a family I stayed with on Lake Titicaca. More recently I enjoyed chatting to taxi drivers and my BnB host in Madrid.
The thing I find the most challenging about Spanish is all the past tenses, particularly those where there isn’t an English equivalent! I hope to continue my Spanish and get better and better. Thanks Raul for helping me achieve my goal to speak Spanish! 🙂 (Katrina H. May 2, 2016 at 3:22 pm)
“Firstly, I only recently stopped learning Spanish due to work & time pressures. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning Spanish with Raúl, and the mix of classroom chat in Spanish, exercises and the, occasional, ‘fiendishly’ difficult listening comprehension audios promote language acquisition in a fun way. Working with other students also helps make it much more interesting. If there was one thing I might change, it’s to enforce a ‘no English at all’ inside the room – an agreed upon ‘contract’ to encourage/force students in the more advanced classes to use their Spanish, rather than taking the easy option to revert back to English. But I definitely recommend Raúl as he has an easy going manner and (to my ear) understandable Spanish!” (Alex K. April 23, 2016 at 8:05 am)
“I very much enjoyed my time at International House. I liked the variety in tasks each lesson had as it made the lessons interesting. I also liked how interactive the lessons were with Raul as it helped to keep me concentrated throughout the whole lesson. Being able to choose my own topics and objectives also made the lessons a lot more interesting. I feel my Spanish has improved greatly over the time I was there and I’m now ready to start my uni course. Thank you very much Raul. (Fergus W. 2oth of April, 2016 07:49 pm)
“I am currently in my third year of studying Spanish at International House. Having been to other language classes in the past, I can say that International House are the best. The classes are varied and interesting, with a good mix of activities. Raúl always makes a point of asking students what their personal objectives are and does his best to make sure they are achieved. The small class sizes are a real bonus and the classroom environment is always welcoming to new students.
My Spanish has improved greatly over the course of my time there, and with the help of the excellent teaching I have passed formal exams in Spanish and am able to use it in my job.” (Paula G. 1st of February, 2016 08:09 am)
” I enjoy the range and variety of tasks, which are interesting and enjoyable. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive, I don;t feel concerned about making errors. The work is challenging but achievable; pitched at the right level for me. I would like more opportunities to move around and work with different people in the class. I am enjoying the class immensely and look forward to it each week. I will definitively be looking to carry on when this course had ended.” (Neil M. January 24, 2016 21:45 pm)
“I spent 18 month learning Spanish via distance learning with the Open University. I found that I wasn’t doing enough speaking and listening. In the 9 months that I spent at International House I feel that my listening comprehension and competence in speaking improved tremendously. It’s great to learn with other students and Raúl pushes us, but never in a way that makes people uncomfortable. A really enjoyable experience. Learning with other people with a real Spanish person is the perfect way to improve your Spanish! Thanks Raúl. :)” (Alex K. January 23, 2016 15:31 pm)
“I was quite apprehensive before starting my Spanish classes at International House as it had been a while since studying the language. I have felt really welcomed in class and although the work is challenging, I feel I have been supported. I look forward to the rest of my course and hopefully improving my skills and expanding my vocabulary.” (Sinead W. January 25, 2016 21:06 pm)
“The teaching style is informal and fun- but professional at the same time. My confidence has improved dramatically since the first class! I particularly like the varied methods of teaching and always feel challenged to push myself further!” (Rachel C. January 22, 2016 18:41 pm)
“I have been learning Spanish at International House for a year now and I am really enjoying it. The classes are interesting and always different, and I feel like I have learned a lot after being a total beginner when I started. The social aspect of the class is also nice, and I have also enjoyed practicing my skills at the Spanish cafe on Monday nights. I would recommend these classes to everyone, and I hope to keep attending until I can speak fluently. Muchas gracias Raúl!” (Rebecca G. January 21, 2016 15:36 pm)
“I have very much enjoyed Raul’s Spanish classes. He makes learning interesting and fun. There is a good mix of grammar and vocab learning. It is useful that we can go back to his presentation slides on his site. He gets everyone involved and we all have a go at speaking. He always corrects, and gives useful feedback, on our homeworks.” (Ian M. January 21, 2016 21:48 pm)
“Fantastic tuition from Raul….fun and informative, I would highly recommend. Real life tuition!” (Victoria C. January 21, 2016 at 22:33 pm)
“Raul is an excellent tutor the lessons are fun and engaging and cover a wide range of topics. Thank you” (Kelly P. January 22, 2016 at 10:23 am)
“To anyone looking to learn Spanish in Newcastle, I *highly* recommend Raúl at International House. I took three terms with him and learnt more in that time than all other courses, books, DVDs and software put together!
He has a happy, professional but calm teaching style and also makes the sessions a lot of fun.
Would I get more lessons from Raúl? Absolutely – the only reason I stopped at three was due to a work commitment – I plan to return as soon as I can!” (B. McKay January 11, 2016 at 11:36 pm)
“Raul is an excellent teacher. I feel each lesson has been individually tailored to my needs and style of learning. He is very enthusiastic and easy to get on with and his positive encouragement makes me feel more able to tackle some of the more difficult subjects. I like that he only speaks Spanish in the class as this sets a discipline of listening to the different sounds of the language ready for learning. Through our conversations, I feel I understand more about Spanish culture and Raul. Raul has then used some of his knowledge of my interests me to then develop lessons.” (Paul Court)
“I really enjoyed my beginners Spanish course at International House! The lessons were varied and interesting – with games, listening exercises, speaking exercises, vocab and grammer spread throughout. The additional support offered through online learning was of great benefit too! ” (Laura Dobson)
“Comments about the teacher: Enthusiastic with a good sense of humour! He explains things well and helps us to broaden our topic based vocabulary. Classes are interesting and informative. A great way to improve your understanding and command of Spanish no matter what your starting level. Classes are fun yet informative” (Sue Charlton)
“I’ve really enjoyed my Spanish classes with Raul.
He is a great enthusiast for the Spanish language and for Spanish culture. This is very evident in his teaching approach- anecdotes of Spanish customs and habits, beautiful images of amazing Spanish cities, together with some social commentary. This seems to make our learning all the more interesting and relevant.
He employs a wide range of teaching methods, from standard whiteboard and power point to Spanish film clips and popular music. His presentations are available on line after class, he is very accessible by e-mail, and he also offers a search engine for language issues.
There is a strong emphasis on speaking Spanish during the class. Raul is invariably extremely supportive as we struggle to put English thoughts into Spanish words. Weekly homework is issued. It’s not excessive, Raul returns the homework promptly together with helpful comments where required.
Raúl is an inspirational teacher. Each week I’ve left the class with renewed enthusiasm and determination to master the Spanish language.”
